As the final class in the three-semester quantum physics sequence for undergraduates, 8.06 also acts as a communication intensive class for the physics major. Throughout the class, students as tasked with picking a research topic in modern quantum mechanics that could be explored with material covered within the class.
Inspired by the approach taken by researchers at Cornell in their papers on Charmonium, I decided to study a generalized approach of their quark model for all meson ground states which as expected experienced varying degrees of success across for different mesons.
As a student with a background in experimental physics research, this trial run of theoretical research was a really interesting challenge and I gained a lot more appreciation for the work that happens on the parallel side of high energy physics.
